One of the most critical part of the ink cartridge is a foam sponge which directly affects the quality of printing. Ink cartridges have sponges through which the ink flows. The quality of foam sponge determines the flow of volume of ink. More flow or less flow of ink through the foam sponge will affect the printing. Thus, it is critical to test the foam sponge as it is vital in transferring ink to paper.
The Porosity Tester (F0031) is used to monitor the porosity of foam sponge used in various applications like ink cartridges, makeup sponges, etc. The machine determines how easy air passes through the cellular structure of the sponge. Airflow values may be used as an indirect measurement of certain cell structure characteristics.
The Porosity Tester tests foam sponge samples as they are placed in a vacuum chamber cavity and a specified automatic constant vacuumed air is applied. The vacuum in Pa can be digitally set on the display and once the tester reaches the set pressure, the rate of airflow at the set Pa is automatically locked in and held on the flow display, completing a test in seconds. The sample is tested from both sides with the help of sample holders.
Custom Test Head Sample Inserts & Test Head Sample Holder
Custom test head sample inserts are available based on sample sizes. To test airflow from 2 sides of one sample, two sample heads would be required. Please specify sample sizes when ordering. A sample holder can be optionally purchased to safely store the sample heads.

Test Screen
- The test screen features the setup, start and stop touch buttons for testing. It displays the pre-set pa pressure and flow L/min.
Result Screen
- After a stable reading for 2 seconds, the test result screen will automatically be displayed showing results.

Test Report
The report may include the following:
• Type of material under test.
• Location and orientation of each specimen with respect to foam rise in the section of foam that was sampled.
• Mean air flow value in cubic decimetres per second for each location and orientation.
• Dimensions of the specimen, and dimension of the mount cavity of the apparatus.
• The standard to which the test was performed.
• Test conditions: Temperature, relative humidity, apparatus type and pressure direction
