This machine forms flutes of paper. Therefore, preparing samples for crush testing. The method includes maintaining of temperature at a constant 175°C. Then, one roller is motor driven at 4 r/min. While the other is free to rotate with a minimum of friction or other resistance.

The Concora Fluter has been specially designed and manufactured to form test flutes in medium in preparation for crush tests with reference to AS/NZS 1301.434 standard. A constant temperature of 175°C is maintained, with one roller motor driven at 4 r/min, while the other being free to rotate with a minimum of friction or other resistance.

Test Principel using the Concora Flutter 

A test piece is fluted by passing it through loaded, heated rollers. Flutes are formed into single-faced fluted composite using pressure-sensitive adhesive tape as the liner. These test flutes are then used in a Crush Tester to determine the crush resistance.Test specimens shall be conditioned in accordance to relevant test standards.
The flat crush resistance of laboratory-fluted corrugating medium is regarded as a property indicating the potential flat crush resistance of corrugated fibreboard made from that medium. The corrugated medium is fluted by passing it between heated rollers.
Flat crush resistance is the maximum force that a corrugated test piece will withstand before the flutes collapse under an increasing force applied perpendicular to its surface. This method describes a procedure for measuring the crushing resistance of a laboratory fluted strip of corrugating medium, and provides a means of estimating, in the laboratory, the potential flat crush resistance of a corrugated board.

What is a Flute? types of flutes  for testing

Corrugated cardboard, sometimes just called corrugated, is a sturdy packaging material made of various layers of flutes. Flute is the name given to the wave shaped structure that provides strength to reinforce corrugated cardboard. The purpose of these flutes is to help with cardboard strength to allow for stacking and to provide insulation to protect the package's contents.

Flutes come in different sizes, ranging in thickness, strength, and resistance to accommodate any cardboard packaging requirement, be it freight or display-related.
